Kite route in Ceará: 10 to 15 day coastal itinerary
Kite trip itinerary along Ceará's west coast, Fortaleza to Jericoacoara: Cumbuco, Taíba, Icaraizinho, Guajiru, Preá and Jeri with logistics tips.

Ceará’s west coast is one of the world’s best kitesurfing routes. In a few hundred kilometers, you pass flat-water spots, waves, lagoons and some of Brazil’s most beautiful downwinds. This is a 10 to 15 day itinerary, from Fortaleza to Jericoacoara.
Before you start
- Season: July through January, peaking August through November. Check the best time guide.
- Transport: rental car (careful on sand sections) or transfers between cities. In isolated areas, 4x4.
- Gear: bring or rent? Read this article.
Suggested itinerary
Days 1 to 3: Cumbuco
Start near Fortaleza airport. Cumbuco has the Northeast’s best infrastructure and Cauípe Lagoon to get in the rhythm.
Days 4 and 5: Taíba
About an hour from Fortaleza, Taíba has open sea and fewer riders. If you ride autonomously, you can downwind from Cumbuco with support.
Days 6 to 8: Icaraizinho de Amontada
Quiet village and waves. Icaraizinho is the highlight for wave lovers.
Days 9 and 10: Guajiru Island
Time for flat water. Guajiru Island is perfect for freestyle and a break from waves.
Days 11 to 15: Preá and Jericoacoara
End in style at Jericoacoara and Preá: consistent wind, lagoons, the Preá → Jeri downwind and sunset from the dune. With more time, continue to Tatajuba.

From Jericoacoara, the “Route of Emotions” continues west, passing Barra Grande in Piauí, all the way to Atins in Lençóis Maranhenses.
Logistics tips
- Book accommodation in advance during peak months.
- Leave a rest day in the itinerary for no-wind days or downtime.
- Arrange lessons, rentals and downwinds with schools at each destination: we recommend one at the end of each guide.
