Rent or bring kitesurf gear for your Brazil trip?
Is it worth shipping your own kite gear or renting on destination? Costs, pros, cons and tips for safe rental in the Northeast.

One of the first questions experienced riders ask when planning a kite trip to Brazil: should I bring my own gear or rent there? The answer depends on how many days you’ll be there, how many destinations you’ll visit, and what your airline charges for special baggage.
When it’s worth bringing
- Long trips (two weeks or more), where daily rental costs add up quickly.
- You’re picky about your gear: specific size, model and setup you know well.
- Multi-spot itineraries, where rental shops aren’t always available.
Important: check the airline’s special baggage policy before you book. Some charge high fees for kite bags.
When it’s worth renting
- Short trips, just a few days.
- If you’re still learning and don’t have your own gear.
- If you want to test different sizes and models before you buy.
- Trips where kite is just part of the plan.
Tips for safe rental
- Check the condition of the lines, bar and safety system before you go out.
- Ask for the right size for your weight and that day’s wind — the school can advise.
- Ask what happens if there’s damage: many schools require a deposit or release form.
- Arrange supervision if you don’t have full autonomy. Many schools only rent to riders who prove their level.
What to bring even if renting
- Your own harness (it’s personal and makes a difference in comfort).
- Rash guard, water-resistant sunscreen and glasses with a leash.
- Neoprene boots for spots with rocks or reefs.
At the end of each destination guide, we show the school we recommend, with lessons and rental available.
