Icaraizinho de Amontada is a small, quiet village on Ceará’s west coast. Coconut palms, fishing jangadas, dunes with wind turbines on the horizon and a long, open waterfront. For kitesurfing, the profile is very different from flat water spots: here the sea is open and waves are part of the experience.
The spot
The beach is long and seasonal wind arrives strong and steady. The sea has waves of varying sizes, making Icaraizinho a destination for those who love wave riding and those wanting to do downwind runs along the coast. On strong wind days, the sea gets rough and demands technique.
Because it’s a calmer place with fewer people in the water than famous spots, it’s great for riding without competing for space.
For whom
- Intermediate and advanced: open sea, waves and strong wind.
- Downwind: long coast for downwind runs, always with support.
- Beginners: you can learn with a school, but flat water spots nearby are usually more comfortable for first lessons.
Best season
Like the rest of Ceará’s west coast, season generally runs from July to January, with steadier wind between August and November.
How to get there
Icaraizinho is a few hours’ drive from Fortaleza. Many people combine the trip with Ilha do Guajiru, further west, where water is flat—a good way to alternate waves and flat water on the same trip.
Tips
- If you don’t ride with confidence in open sea, start with a local school.
- Combine downwind runs with land support.
